WANGANUI EAST CLUB HARD COURT MATCHES CITY AND COUNTRY. Now that the Wanganui East grass courts arc closed members have been busy challenging on private hard courts. During the last month two exciting matches have taken place on Robson’s hard court, in which some fast, hard play was seen. The challengers were City v. County. The results of the first match were: Willis and Robson v. Gould and Hamilton 6-2; Robson and Furneaux v. Barnes and Gould 3-6; Robson and Willis v. Hamilton and Barnes 1-6. Willis v. Hamilton 6-4; Robson v. Gould 6-2; Furneaux v. Barnes 4-6—26 game all. With a stronger team City won on sets, the County being two sets down though one game to the good. The results were: McFarlane and Gould v. Walker and Robson 6-4; Hamilton and Barnes v. Willis and Walker 5-6; McFarlane and Gould v. Willis and Robson 6-5; Hamilton and Barnes v. Walker and Robson 0-6; McFarlane and Hamilton v. Furneaux and Willis 6-4; Gould and Barnes v. Furneaux and Walker 6-5; Gould and Hamilton v. Furneaux and Robson 2-6; McFarlane and Barnes v. Furneaux and Willis 6-4; Gould v. Robson 4-6; Hamilton v. Willis 5-6; McFarlane v. Walker 6-3; Barnes v. Furneaux 6-4. Aggregates: City, 7 sets 58 games; County, 5 sets, 59 games. A final challenge is out in which the County hope to be victorious.
