Chandonia was six lengths behind Perpetual and Namera was fourth. Time 6.28. NOTES AND COMMENTS (By “Kestrel”) The Napier Park Racing Club’s oneday winter meeting will be held next Saturday. The winner of three races at the Ellerslie winter meeting, Glendowie i. a much-discussed gelding. He put up a fine record in hunter races last season, amd there is no reason why he should not emulate the deeds of such great hunters of the. past as Kaitere, Coalition, Waimai and Beau Cavalier, who all started their winning careers in the hunter class. The Fatal Fence Mount Marta and Levenside met their end during training operations for the Great INorthern meeting and the fate of two promising jumpers, Gcyserlanri and Wee Marble during the actual racing brought the list of casualties up to four. A coincidence in connection with the deaths of Gcyscrland and Wee Marble is that each broke his neck when they fell at the same fence, the first obstacle on top of the hill in the first round.

Back in Hawke’s Bay Kamehamcha, who silenced the opposition in the Greenlane Steeplechase at Ellerslie on Saturday is a Hawked Bay production, as he was bred at Otatara by Mrs M. A. Perry. He is a rising eight-year-old son of Demosthenes and Rangiao, being a fugbrother to Hula Girl, Bitholia and Elocution. A Rare Finish

The King George Handicap at Ellerslie on Monday resulted in a dashing finish, says “Early Bird.” Oration looked the winner at the distance where Nane.y Lee was also going well, and Ohinemuri was also moving up, with Stormy coining from further back. Then Oration forged ahead to be joinedl by Stormy, who had been interfered with at the bottom of the straight and Ohinemuri and just when they looked like having a finish all to themselves Te Korokc put in his claim. The first three were all in a heap and Te Koroke came up and joined them, colliding slightly as the trio bore out under pressure. At this stage, a few yards from the post had the Humbug gelding got a clear run, it looked as if he would have won, but as it was he was fourth, a neck behind the winner, Ohinemuri, with Oration and Stormy splitting them.
