Lucien Littlefield has undoubtedly created more chills and thrills for an audience with his grotesque characterisations than any other actor in the profession. He is seen in one of the best roles of his career in the latest Universal Jewel production “Cheating Cheaters.” His part is a crooked lawyer and backed of a gang of thieves adds considerably to the reality of the story in which Betty Compson and Kenneth Harlan portray the leading roles.

There are 70 principal artists in the cast of “The Prince of Adventurers,” a Universal Film-de-Franec Extravaganza. Ivan Mosjukine, star of “Michael Strogoff’’ and “Surrender,” has the leading role, and there are some of the most, famous Russian, French and Austrian artists in the world. • ♦ ♦ •

Aviators have a bettor chance of steady employment at present than any other class of workers in Hollywood. There are several score actor-aviators among the thousands of “extras” in the film capital and they experience less unemployment than any others.

Edmund Cobb, star of many Western photoplays, appears in the featured human role supporting “Dynamite.” the police dog starring in “Wolf’s Trial.” the latest thriller released by Universal. It is a fast moving sensational portrayal of the work of the Texas Rangers in breaking up border smuggling, with the aid of an almost human dog. Cobb is supported by a big cast including Dixie Lamont, Edwin Terry, Joe Bennett, and others. Basil Dickey wrote the story and the picture was made by Francis Ford. # # # * A caravan of passenger automobiles and trucks carried a company of 50 people and equipment to a two weeks’ location site 30 miles from Los .Angeles for the making of exteriors for Hoot Gibson’s latest Universal starring vehicle, “Galloping Fury.” The wellrounded supporting east, includes Sally Rand, Otis Harlan, Frank Beal, Ed Coxon, Duke R, Lee, Poewes Hulmes, Max Asher and Black Hawk. ♦ * # # Aeroplanes are being constantly utilised in the making of motion pictures and since the tremendous increase in interest in aviation caused by the trans-Paeific and trans-Atlantic flights pictures built around aeroplanes or having an aviation sequence arc on the up-grade in popularity. # * * * Wallace Beery who. with Raymond Hatton, has been responsible for more laughter than any one on the screen, has a new’ occupation. He lias bought an aeroplane and, between pictures and on holidays, spends his time joyriding with the clouds. Paramount will star Mr Beery in a different type of production in the near future. * * * * The arrival of Jack Holt’s ‘4Vanishing Pioneer” company at Rockville, Utah, at one of the great national parks of the United States increased by 50 per cent, the population of the village. Normal strength is -00 souls. The company is there on location from the Paramount studios in Hollywood, making a picture from a Zane Grey novel, with John Masters as director. Roscoe Karns, Lillian West, Marcia Manon and Jack Holt’s little son are on location with the company. * * * ♦ Fox Films are shortly releasing the screen version of the well-known opera, “Carmen,” titled “Loves of Carmen.” Dolores Del Rio. the alluring “Charinaine” of “What Price Glory.” has the title role, and Victor McLaglen, the hard-boiled “Captain Flagg” of the same production, has the role of the toreador. This is a flaming drama of passionate love under the warm skies of Spain. To make the role of the genuine bit of artistry, Director Raoul Walsh, maker of “What Price Glory,” Imported a young man, Rafael Valverde, fresh from Spain’s largest arenas, where he thrived on a wide reputation as a successful toreador, for the express purpose of tutoring Victor McLaglen in the art anil technique of the bull ring. For a period of six weeks McLaglen drilled daily in this work. Others in the cast are Don Alvarado, a young screen player w’ho has risen to the front ranks with amazing rapidity, who portrays the role of Don Jose, Nancy Nash, Ralph Sipperly, Bon Bard, Mathilde Comont, Dorothy Revicr and Jack Bastian,

Marie Prevost has been signed for the only feminine role in “The Racket,” the underworld story starring Thomas Meighan. Miss Prevost was selected from a score of players for the role by the producer, who is making the picture for Paramount release. Lewis Milestone is the director. Louis Volheim has a most important role.

F. W. Murnau, director of Fox Films great production, “Sunrise,” has just finished work on his second big picture for this exchange, titled “The, Four Devils.” Unlike “Sunrise,” which was a simple song of two humans,

“The Four Devils” abounds with action and suspense, yet it tells a story of deep heart interest and the devotion of an old clown who mothers four orphan Dodgings whom Fate has placed in his keeping. The picture is based on the original story by Herman Bang, and it has been one of Murnau’s most persistent ambitions for years to make it into a pictorial play. It has a splendid cast, including Janet Gaynor, the lovely Diane of “7th Heaven,” Charles Morton, Mary Duncan, Farrell MacDonald, Nancy Drexel, and Barry Norton, the “mother's boy” of “What Price Glorv. ”
