Curre.spon<*ents are again complaining about the vmbroglio created by the electricians, w.h give us batteries which need topping up once a month, and car designers, who house those batteries where only a Houdini with a mirror and* an inspection lamp could verify the level, not to of the need for two jacks in order to extract the cells, and the risk of buckling the celluloid during the operation. Personally. “Generator” is dead against the running board position; it create® an ugly excrescence on the line lines of a well-designed car, and it is extremely vulnerable in minor collisions. The writer has only seen one car which carried its batteries in the right place—slung centrally behind the back axle. Even in this case the job was not well executed, as the lid of the case was insufficiently secure, and its back panel was a fixture. But the idea showed unrealised possibilities, as a better cax would have given perfect access, whilst the weight was in the right place, and the batteries quite unobtrusive. The position would not. of course, he possible with a stern petrol tank, but such tanks arc rare on small cars.
