THE WINTER SHOW

GOOD ENTRIES RECEIVED OPENING OF INTERESTING FIXTURE Opened yesterday at the Racecourse, the Wanganui Winter Show wilt to-day and to-morrow prove a popular attraction. Yesterday being judging day, saw merely a fair attendance, but the main attractions of the event are anticipated to draw large crowds. To-night will be children’s night and a fireworks display on an extensive scale will be the outstanding feature. Whippet racing—antirely new to Wanganui—is the chief event to-morrow, People’s Day, hut will be admirably supported in finding public approval by cycling and harrier running, two sports which are increasing in popularity here. Show officials were busy people throughout yesterday and last night and commendable progress was made in the judging of the many exhibits, which are considered to be well up to standard in both quality and number. The poultry and canary sections met with exceptional public interest. Judging in the dog section will be put in hand to-day. BUSY BUILDERS Ducks

ACTIVE PREPARATIONS t SHOWMEN MAKE READY FOR PUBLIC. Yesterday’s scene at the show was one of intense activity, and exhibitors, showmen and officials formed a busy throng in their preparations for tho main public days to-day and to-morrow. An extensive list of attractions is expected to cause increased favour from the public and prospects for the success of the Winter Show here at present augur well. Flying hammers and piles of construction work being handled by groups of workmen featured yesterday’s affairs, but the scene will be materially changed for the remainder of rhe show, when large crowds will throng the exhibition stalls and alley-ways. The show will be in progress until 10 o'clock each night. Exhibits cover local secondary industries fully and motor demonstration areas hold more than ordinary interest. Primary producers also have an important part in the exhibition. Considerable importance is attached to the quality of the exhibits in tho bird sections and the produce displays.
