This morning Detective Nalder had two bets, and both horses that he invested: 10s upon duly romped home, each paying a good price. The money did not go through the ordinary channels of tne “tote,” the detective going all the way to Papakura to get his money on the totahsator. He approached Papakura’a “bookie,” Chamberlain. who gladly pocketed the twenty shillings and said. “You’re on.” It was only then that the stranger disclosed' his identity. Chamberlain’s arrest followed and he drove the detective to Auckland, where he came before a Magistrate and pleaned guilty and was fined £75. The two horses backed were Lady Cintra (seventh favourite) and Bourn (third favourite). The question now is who gets the di vies, and will the bookie pay ontl
