DOG TRIALS

AT PAPARANGI A SUCCESSFUL FIXTURE The Paparangi-Tokomaru trials were held in beautiful weather, and wore one of tho most successful meetings of the club. The entries, which wore a record, included most of the winning dogs at the various trials held on the coast this season, and many of them will be competing at the championship North Island trials at Whangarei at the begining of next month. Tho sincere thanks of the club are due to Mr R. Farley for the sheep, also to his manager, Mr F. Hall, for the manner in which he drafted out any weakly sheep, thus ensuring good strong sheep for every competitor. The club is also indebted to Messrs Caddy and Williams for tho use of the grounds which all competitors agreed were fit to run championship trials on. In Mr Donald Ross the club has a generous patron and the club thanks him for the valuable challenge silver cup for a team’s prize, also Messrs G. F. Moore, J. J. Taylor, and the many donors for their contributions. The liberating stewards, under Mr R. Richardson, worked with a will, and all sheep were ready to be let out at the word go. The catering, in the hands of the ladies of the Westmere Memorial Church, was a credit to them. The judge, Mr C. S. Hay, of Masterton, one of the original founders of the club, had some close work to separate the winners of the classes, owing to good work put up, and he said that any dog competing at these trials was quite fit to compete at any trials m New Zealand. The class HI. event, huntaway, fell to a local man, and proved a most popular win, and the novice in the same event also fell to a local man who had never before competed. To all members of tho club the club is grateful for the complete success of tho trials. Below are results:— Class I.—Long head and hold in ring: R. Guthrie, Gyp, 45 points, Ist; T.
