TRAIN ACCIDENT IN HAWKES BAY

[ Per Press Association I GISBORNE, May 18. It is reported that a train accident happened on the Gisbome-Motu railway line near Rakauroa this evening. A relief train conveying a doctor and nurses left Gisborne at ten o’clock but are not expected to return till the early hours. Meagre particulars show that the train -could not take the Otoko hill, and so was divided and a few carriages were taken up first. Coming down the engine skidded owing to the greasy line, and the back portion- crashed into the second half of the waiting train. A carriage containing first and secondclass passengers was derailed but it is understood that no one was seriously hurt. Three or four passengers were badly shaken and are suffering from shock.
