TARIFF PROBLEMS
LEAGUE DISCUSSION BRITAIN WANTS REDUCTIONS I Australian Press Asm. ] Received May 18. 9 p.m. GENEVA, -May y 7. Very divided opinion is existing in the committee appointed to consider tariff questions. The British delegates are pressing for reduction on particularly selectei groups of commodities, and insisting that within each group raw semi-fin-ished and finished products be included in a list to include woollen worsteds an/1 iron and steel engineering. The French delegate in oppo>ing this paid that a rigid principle courted failure. Mr McDougall supported this point of view, pointing out that there were the non-European countries to consider and reminding the committee that any action the League took in the economic sphere affected the prestige of the league one way or another.
