MINE MANAGERS’ REPORTS Occidental Una. —The manager reports that th c quartz broken from the No. 1 reef in the north end still looks well, and colours and dabs of gold , were seen in thc ore at last breaking ; down. The country in the south enrl is of a good quality for making gold. The reef ’ here has broken up into stringers about six inches wi6e, and gold is still seen in thc ore broken. Hauraki Alines. —Thc manager reports that at the seaward face of the -100 ft level the drive on the cross reef into the hanging-wall country to locate the Green Harp reef has been driven to a total distance of 55ft. At 50ft a reef was met with, with tho same dip and course as the Green Harp reef in the 180 ft level of the Union Beach. Thc quartz at this point is about 6in in width and is favourable for gold. A considerable flow of water is coming from this reef, indicating its continuity. Driving seaward on the main reef has been resumed. The above work has proved that thc junction with this reef and the Green Harp is still further seaward. This rise to connect with the Union Beach section for ventilation
and stopping purposes is up 40ft. Tho reef in th e back of the rise is about 2ft in width and much thc same nature as where the gold was got 50ft seaward of this point. Thc Hauraki shaft is now 42ft below the 50ft level chamber. The reef mentioned in the lasltwo reports continues about 6ft- in width with thin black mineralised, pug between well defined walls of solid country. There is no noticeable increase in the water flow which is easily pumped to the 400 ft cistern by the Cameron pump. Alexander Mines (Reefton).— Thc manager reports that driving lias been | continued on Lotus reef Mullocky 1 Creek South for 36ft. Of that distance | 12ft were on a lode of narrow width and greatly disturbed, but containing good values. Th e remaining distance is on thc reef track between two very hard walls.
