FLOOD WATERS
QUEENSLAND LOSSES Da-’?: -(2 io Property and Shipping at Brisbane MUNICIPAL BATHS WRECKED [ By Telegraph—Per Press Assn.—Copyright ] Received April 22, 9.10 p.m. (A. & N.Z.) BRISBANE, April 21. When the down-rushing flood of waters in the Brisbane river met the incoming tide on Saturday, the stream rose 10ft. 9in., practically four feet below the 1908 record. The municipal floating baths broke from their moorings and struck the steamer Moreton and the railway wharf at Kangaroo point was carried away and fouled the hulk of the steamer, Bingcra. The baths were smashed and tho sections piled on shore near the river mouth. Thirteen inches of rain fell at Rockhampton in 24 hours. The Fitzroy river rose alarmingly and the wharf was submerged. A man named William Weston was drowned in Frenchman’s Creek. Heavy losses of stock are reported. Owing to the floods south of Brisbane traffic is delayed. The Esperance Bay and Orama were a day late in leaving port as the result uf the flood waters, and the former compelled to leave 17,000 boxes of butter on the wharf. Debris in large quantities is floating down the river, menacing navigation. Shopkeepers are busy removing goods from cellars in anticipation of further floods. Reports from country centres indicate that the flood waters are receding. Great damage has been caused, many farmers losing their entire crops, besides extensive damage to roads and bridges.
