PERSONAL [ Special •'Chronicle” Service. ] Miss D. McNeill and Mr C. McNeill have returned from a visit to Auckland. Mrs Bireh, Westmere, is visiting her daughter, Mrs T. W. Pairman. Mr and Mrs F. Bonnor, Kawhatau, are spending a few days in Palmerston North. Mr and Mrs S. Banning, of Hastings spent a few days with Mrs A. P. Loye last week. Miss Gilchrist, dental nurse, left Mangaweka on Thursday for Marton. Messrs W. Watson, G. Zoles, G. Toms and Pikirangi have left for a Cow days’ fishing at Taupo. Mr M. Graham of Mangaweka, and Air F. Beattie, of Palmerston North, have taken over the business of Mr W. Craig, at Utiku. TENNIS Following are the results of the handicap tenuis competitions:— Ladies’ singles (final), Aliss J. Bailey (12) defeated Aliss Bonnor (15) by 65— 62. Ladies’ doubles (final): Aliss Sweet and Airs AV ay mouth defeated Aliss Johnstone and Aliss Carruthers by default. Combined doubles (final): Aliss J. Bailey and R. Young (12) defeated C. Oakley and Aliss Sweet by 60 —53. Men’s singles (final): Trewby (scr) defeated Barrell (10) by 60—48. CROQUET The croquet ladies held a meeting lasi week and it was decided to hold their annual dance early in May, arrangements to be carried out as last year, and the supper to be provided by the members. Alesdames L. A. Bailey and L. G. Smith were appointed joint secretaries. FOOTBALL The Alangaweka team played a match against the Ohmgaiti club last week-end, when Alangaweka won by 19 points to 3. TOWN BOARD There was a special meeting of the Town Board during the week, to discuss library affairs when Air A. Alilner was in. the chair. The secretary reported that he had received a subsidy of £8 10s from tne Education Department to be expended on new books. Th e balance sheet for the past year was read and showed a debit balance of £1 3s lid. The chairman said that this was most unfortunate as the deficiency had to be paid out of the Town Board's general account. After some discussion, the secretary was instructed to send circulars to the householders in an endeavour to stimulate public interest. In concluding the business of the evening Air Alilner said that unless the library received more support, the Board would be unable to carry on and the library and rest room would have to be closed.
