Leaving Sydney on the Friday morning the Aorangi travelled the distance from Sydney Heads to Rangitoto Beacon in 3 days 1 hour and 21 minutes, which is three minutes less than the time occupied on her trip when she reached Auckland from Sydney on February I of this year. The fiiagara’s best time beiween the two ports is 3 days 23 minutes, or one hour better than the Aorangi’s time. NEW OIL TANKERS. Specially built for the Australian trade, the Vacuum Oil Company’s tanker Yarraville was launched at the shipbuilding yards of Sir W. G. Armstrong, Whitworth and Co., Ltd., recently. This is the fourth of the company’s fleet to be built for fie Australian trade. Her sister ship, the Voco, visited Sydney on her maiden voyage at the beginning of last month. The Plume and the Pulpit Point ■ i sited Australia last year, and the Pulpit Point is due there again shortly.

The Yarraville will be identical in size and structure to the Voco, which is now en route to Auckland.

It is understood that Sir W. G. Armstrong, Whitworth and Co., Ltd., have received an order from the Vacuum Oil Company for a steam-driven oil tanker. This vessel will be 335 feet long, and will be designed to carry 7250 tons deadweight on a draft of 24 feet 4 inches. The propelling system consists c.f triple-expansion engines. It is expected that the steamer will be olf the stocks in December. It is not known whether this vessel will be placed in the Australian trade, but it is probable that the four already built will maintain the company’s trade between California and Australia and New Zealand. CAPTAIN W. H. PARKER. Captain W. H. Parker, C.8.E., commander of the White Star liner Albertic, has succeeded Captain Arthur Holme, commander of the White Star liner Homeric, whose retirement was announced in December. Captain Holme has reached the age limit set by the White Star Line, and he will retire to a life of ease after 45 years at sea. Captain Parker, who succeeds him, spent last season in command of the Albertic, the largest cabin, steamer on the St. Lawrence route, which was only added to the White Star fleet last summer. He has had a varied career in more than 40 years at sea, and during that time has formed friendships in many parts of the world.
