ANZAC DAY
MEMORIAL SERVICE ARRANGEMENTS COMPLETED. A meeting of the Anzac Day Commemoration /Service Committee was held yesterday. The Mayor, Mr W. J. Rogers, presided, and also present were members of the Ministers’ Association and Captain Donaldson, of the Defence Department* A service in Cook’s Gardens was decided upon. The service will open with the National Anthem, accompanied by massed bands- A short address will be delivered by the Mayor, followed by a prayer led by the Rev- E. T. Cox, M.A. The Rev. W. T. Weller will then read passages of Scripture, and the principal address will be given by the Rev. II- S. Goring. Three hymns will bo sung during the service, which will conclude with the Benediction Dy the Rev. W. Elliott, M.A., and the playing of the Last Post by the Boys’ Bugle Band. Donors of floral tributes are requested to leave same at St. Paul’s Halt during the forenoon of Anzac Day. WreaUw will be placed after the service on the Memorial iu Queen’s Park, on ’he Maori Memorial in Moutoa Gardens, and on the soldiers’ graves at Arauioho.
Watt Street and Maria Place will be closed to vehicular traffic from 1 p.m. U) 3-30 p.m., and Nelson Street on the eastern side of Guyton Street, will L»c closed from 2 to 3.30 p.m.
In the event of wet weather a massed service will be held iu the Opera House, and arrangements have be m made for an overflow service if necessary. The firebell in Cook’s Gardens will be rung not later than 1.30 p.m. if the indoor programme is to be followed.
