RUGBY AFFAIRS
WANGANU MANAGEMENT SEVERAL MATTERS DEALT WITH The Wanganui Metropolitan Rugby Sub-Union Management Committee met last evening, the president (Mr Bussell Stevenson) occupying the chair, the following members also being present: Messrs K J. Burton, C. H. Warden, R. Blennerhassett, H. Hague-Smith, A, Pownall, E. V. Laws, H. McFeeluy, J. Rowe, P. Wilson and A. Takarangi. Catering The tender of Mr J. H. Allen was accepted for catering rights on Spriggens Park >jr the season. Junior Advisory Board. Several nominations were received from clubs for seats on junior advisory board, testifying to the interest which the innovation has aroused. As a result of a ballot the following were elected: Messrs T. R. Luff (representative of junior clubs), H. Holgerson, C. Booth, W. W. Bramwell, T. Quirke and H. Tyler. Mr R'. Blennerhassett was appointed chairman and SubUnion representative in accordance with the rules governing the boara’s formation. Wairoa Sub-Union The Wairoa Sub-Union asked that the matter of its boundaries be clearly defined and that all players within the area named as Wairoa be made to play in their own district.
The chainiKn said that he and Mr Powuall had discussed the matter with Mr A. Brown, representing Wairoa, and it had. been found that the boundaries had been laid down some years ago, and Wanganui had no objection to them as they stood. Wairoa were also quite in agreement with the area alloted them.
The Wairoa boundary extends along the Kai Iwi stream from the mouth to the township, back to the tunnel on the railway line on the Wanganui side and from there across to the junction of the Bdunswick and Rangitata roads It was agreed to notify the Wairoa executive of the definition of the boundary and advise that so far as the Metropolitan centre is concerned it will be properly observed as laid down in the rules. Insurance Scheme
An application from Kai Iwi to be in eluded in the Wanganui players accident insurance fund was not entertained, Air Laws pointing out that the two matters upon which the success of the undertaking largely depended—patronage and the close co-operation of the scheme’s medical officers —would not be obtained if the fund embraced too wide an area.
Primary Schools The secretary of the Primary Schools’ Association advised that the school seven-a-sidc tournament would lake place on Saturday next and applied for the use of the racecourse.
Some doubt existed as to whether this ground was available for morning play, but it was decided to meet the schools by granting them the use of Spriggens Park. Seven.-a-Sid 0 Trophies
The Kaierau Club suggested that miniature cups be awarded in the seven-a-side tournament to be held by the individual members of the winning team.
The matter was not approved. It was pointed out that the funds of the Union would not permit the erection of playing sheds and facilities for players, and it was foolish to incur fresh expenditure on trophies.
WANGANUI AND OLD BOYS FINAL SELECTION OF TEAMS Members of all grades of the Oft? Boys’ Club are urgently requested to attend a practice at the training short, Spriggens Park this evening (Wednesday), as the final selection of teams will take place.
