AMUSEMENTS AND MEETINGS
THE MAJESTIC. The programme to be presented at The Majestic Theatre commencing to<ay, gives promise of being one of thebest yet presented in Wanganui. The main feature of course is ‘ ‘ The Missing Link,’’ which features the famous Syd. Chaplin, brother of the world renowned Charlie. It is said that in this extravaganza Syd. settles his comedy crown even more securely upon his head. “The Missing Link” is a riot. The picture has the distinction of being utterly devoid of any subtlety; nothing is suggested; everything is shouted; each laugh is pounded home with the same lusty, red-blooded vehemence with which “Akka” the famous monkey, who appeared here sonic weeks ago, slams the unproteted dome of his “brothr. ’’ Aside from the roaring farce of the production, the picture is said to be notable for Chaplin’s pantomime in several sequences, and for the uncanny and develish. intelligence of ‘ ‘ Akka. ’ ’ Norma Shearer ’s latest production “The Demi-Bibde ' ’ is the supporting feature. Briefly, the story revolves around a French miss who leaves a secluded school to fall in love with the most popular man in Paris. How she shows him that heart-breaking is not the sole perogative of the male sex, how he falls in love with her, and then finds his care-free past rising to baffle him, is told in a bright and breezy fashion that will captivate everyone. Carmel Myers, Dorothy Sebastian, Tenon Holtz and Lionel Barrymore also appear in this frothy story of wedding bells and what happened afterwards.
