CONDITIONS IN THE WAIKATO [ Special “ Chronicle Service 1 HAMILTON, April 12. The Waikato Fanners’ Co.-operative Auctioneering Coy., Ltd., report as follows on the stock inarKet: — Beef.—The market is very firm, with every prospect of a further rise, best prime ox making equal to 35s per 100 and prime cow and heifer up to 30s per lOOlbs. Fat sheep.—Prices are firm with strong competition for both wether and ewe mutton, and altnough not plentiful, sufficient is offereing to meet the local demands.

Stores.—There is still a strong demand for all classes with prices improving. Breeding ewes, wethers, and lambs being keenly sought after. Store cattle. —Gooa yardings have been coming forward and meeting with keen competition; grown and young steers, good empty »*ows, and yearling heifers are in strong demand. Dairy cattle.—Although early in the season, there has been a good enquiry for Jersey and Jersey cross in calf heifers, and several sales at high prices have taken place. Pigs.—There has been a sharp rise with all the market* very firm for baconers and porkers, prime quality making from 6£d to 7d; good stores are in demand, but weaners are still very cheap, due ne, doubt to ttic shortage of feed. THE MASTERTON SALE The New Zealand Farmers’ Co-opera-tive Distributing Co., Ltd., report on the Masterton sale on Wednesday as follows: We had a good en'ry of sheep, comprising mostly lambs of poor to medium quality. Competition for all lines was on a par with previous sales, and we report as follows: Four and fiveyear ewes, 21s; f.m. store ewes, 17s; fat ewes, 18s; fat wethers, 28s sd; good woolly lambs, 20s 6d; b.f. iambs 19s Id; medium shorn wether lambs, 13s 2d: shorn b.f. lambs 17s; small shorn wether lambs, Ils fid; small shorn ewe lambs, 13s 7d to 16s; cull lambs 6s lOd; cull ewes, 8s to 13s 06; 2 forwand cows £3 17s 6d; 1 store cow, £2 .10s; weancr
