BAND CONTEST
STRATFORD JUBILEE QUICKSTEP AND SELECTION The attendance at Victoria Park Stratford last Thursday numbered about 3,000, when a brass band contest was held under the auspices of the Stratford Jubilee Committee. The judge was Captain G. Buckley, of Wanganui. The following were the results:— “C” Grade
"Colonel Bogey/' Captain Buckley shortly addressed the assemblage. Ho said that the young players, those who wore engaged in a contest for the first time especially, sould not be disappointed at not winning, but should stick to their work, and look forward to success in the future. Although ho could not say that the playing was very good, it was of a high standard, and he was very pleased with it. It was very pleasing to find that Taranaki had five bands in a C grade contest, and he could say that very few provinces with a population equal to Taranaki could produce better bands. The B grade work was a good performance. One of the bands was very good and the other not quite so good. Both were good B grade bands. Captain Buckley then conducted the bands in massed formation, and the item was greatly enjoyed. The B grade selection was played in the Park in the evening, when there were over 1500 people present. The result of the two grades was as follows, each band playing its own selection:— B Grade Regimental. 136 points 1 Stratford, 132 points 2 C Grade Eltham, 128 points 1 Opunakc, 127 points 2 Manaia, 125 points 3 Inglewood, .123 points .. 4 Kaponga, 122 points 5
