k, UPER-MARATHON RACE SAN FRANCISCO, March 22. Arthur Newton, who is leading in the foot race from Lost Angeles to New York—organised by “Cash and Carry’ ’ Pyle, the originator of professional tennis—ambled over 32 miles of the Mojav© Desert on Saturday in five hours. Newton has now covered tho 240 miles from Los Angeles to Danby iu 36 hours.
Many of the footsore aJid weary men had their legs bandaged by doctois following in caravans. Hot showers, men to rub them down, and beds await the participants. A huge tent, moved forward by motor trucks, provides quarters for 250. Mr Pyle, with a personal staff of a dozen newspaper correspondents, lives aboard his laud yacht. Sixteen have sleeping accommodation aboard his luxurious motol cruiser. A supply car, carrying hot coffee, cold drinks, and patrols the route. Altogether, it is on( of the moot curious races in the world’! history.
