MORE WAGES AND LESS IN TIPI WASHINGTON, March Tho coloured porters in the United States’ railway trains have demanded higher wages, but the Pullman sleeping car officials have declined to accede to their request. “Look at your tips, which amount to £2O every month,” they said. But thc porters replied: “We want wages, not tips, to depend upon.” Finally the porters carried their co nplaint to thc Government on the ground that tipping violated the Interstate Commerce Act. They wanted tipping stopped by an Act of Congress. The Government replied that it had no jurisdiction in these vital personal matters between master and servant
