MOTOR REGULATIONS
NEW DANGER SYMBOLS THE PEOPLE NOT CONSULTED Without consulting automobile associations or local bodies the Public Works Department introduced 22 road symbols when the motor vehicles regulations were gazetted. Approval has been given to these signs, and presumably no hearing can be given to objections. This is another instance of an attempt to introduce legislation without any consideration of the point of view of the people most affected.
The 22 symbols approved are black arrows, right angles, or curves on a yellow ground, indicating by their position some intersection, hair-nin bend, ascent or descent- Many of the signs are similar to automobile association warnings which have given satisfaction, but there are a few which could b G made less confusing-
In this matter, as in the regulations which have now become national, the Public Works Department seems to have given too much attention to theory and ule of thumb. The views of motor organisations would have resulted in a sprinkling of practical ideas.
