AMUSEMENTS AND MEETINGS.

NEW GRAND THEATRE Saturday’s large audience at both afternoon and evening screenings of First National’s super comedy attraction fairly rocked w r itli laughter at Johnny Hines in “White Pants Willie.” The picture holds tho audience in screams of laughter right to the last fade out, and is easily the best picture that popular Johnny Hines has yet given to the screen. Comedy abounds at every turn and the wonderful coloured sequences in the picture camo as a big surprise to all. The story deals with a young instructor who is mistaken for a champion polo player and ho promises to play- polo as it has never been played before. Then the fun begins. The cast includes Leila Hyams who plays the feminino lead, Ruth Dwyer, Walter Long, Margaret Seddon and George Kuwa a tad Bozo, tho educated goose. The supporting feature “Drifting Three,” starring human Harry Carey, is a gripping dramu, played by Carey in his usual finished style. For a good night’s entertainment this programme fills th© bill and should secure capacityhouses again to-night and to-morrow ‘ evening. On Wednesday' another big Fox attraction, 44 Dancing Mad,” a picture produced in Europe and passed by the censor as more suitable for adult audiences. BANDBOX REVUE COMPANY. On the strength of their reputation, together with the fact that two new programmes arc to be presented, there will doubtless be large attendances when Sir Benjamin and Mr John Fuller again present the Bandbox revue company at the Opera House to-morrow and Wednesday evenings. It is worth noting that the Messrs Fuller are sending their vaudeville and revue companies through on popular prices, a policy which is proving very' popular with, the residents in the various provincial towns. When the company mentioned appears to-morrow evening, an entirely new series of members will constitute the programme. Each of tho principals will be seen in a series of items which differ entirely from those submitted during the recent initial ■ visit. The extensive nature of the re- ! spective repertoires makes such an easy * matter. The revue style of entertain- : ment is in great favour to-day, the [ light order of the offerings making for | very pleasing pastime. In 44 A Matri- ■ monial Muddle” which is to be staged * to-morrow evening and 4 4 Mixed [ Doubles,” to be presented on Wednesday evening, the company have two highly diverting productions. Messrs Charles Normand and Sam Ward, the two comedians will bo seen in congenial roles, while the former artist, whoso cccentrice dancing found great favour recently, will be seen in further grotesque movements. Altogether, it is claimed that the new programmes will be found well up to standard. Scats may be reserved at H. I. Jones and Son’s.
