SOUTH AFRICAN FIND STATE DIGGINGS PLANNED. CAPETOWN, March 18. The Minister of Mines, Mr F. W. Beyers, announced in the House of Assembly the Government’s intention to establish the State diggings at Alexander Bay, where Mercnsky, 14 months ago, discovered immensely rich diamond alluvial deposits. The. Ministci described the 100 claims which the Government proposed to work as “a treasure chest of immense value.” It is intended /o work out the area, which is limited to two acres, probably within six months, but Mr Beyers said the Government would not bo so foolish as to flood the market with valuable stones.
