FIRE IN NURSERY SCHOOL HEROIC RESCUES. Sun Cables) LONDON, Alarch IS. A fire at High trees Nursery School at Horley, which was attended by children aged from four to eight of army officers abroad and others, incinerated four boys and one girl under six The fire commenced in a dormitory where eight were sleeping, owing to the bursting of an oil lamp used for heating. The principals, Alisses Young an<l Tucker, found the dormitory filled with fumes and flames. They heroically carried out three of the children. I'he flames prevented further rescues despite repeated efforts of the staff. Miss Young was badly gassed. To villagers, attracted by the flames, fruitlessly risked their lives. Alounting the blazing stairs ami landing they only descended when their clothes were ; burning. Forty children sleeping on ■ the burning floor were saved.
