WELLINGTON CHAMPIONSHIPS GALLATE LOWERS OWN RECORD 1 Per Proa» Association. ) AA’ELLINGTON,' March 1. The Wellington Amateur Swimming Centre conducted a carnival at the Lower Hutt. Baths to-night, when several provincial championships were decided. In on attempt to lower his record of 69 l-ssec. for the 100 yards, B. Gallate, the New Zealand 100 and 220 yards junior fresh-water record holder, succeeded in cutting off the fifth of a second. Results of important events are as follows: 100 Yards Provincial Championship: —W. Cameron 1, C. ClaridgG 2, L. Leask 3. Time 61sec. 220 Yards Breaststroke Provincial Championship.—W. Cameron 1, R. Spry 2, A. Hepburn 3. Time 3min. 31sec. Won by two yards. 440 Yards Provincial Championship: —C. Claridge 1, Pelham 2, Blakeley 3. Time 6min. 0 2-ssec. Claridge led all the way and won by 15 yards.
