TAIHAPE MAN DROWNED NAVAL MEN GO TO RESCUE [ Per Presi Association. ) GISBORNE, Feb. 13. While bathing on the Waikanae beach this evening, Christian Tange Lauritzen, a resident of Taihape, aged 49 years was carried out by the undertow. Two men off ILM.S. Diomede, Officers’ Steward R. T. Smith, and Seaman H. Chadwick, swam to Lauritzen ’s assistance and held the man up till a lifeline was carried out. Lauritzen was dead when brought ashore.
