GENERAL NEWS A meeting of the general committee of the Alarton Athletic Club will be held in the Alarton Jockey Club-** rooms at 7.30 p in. this evening to arrange for an electric light evening«s sports meeting on Alarton Park during the period of the Territorial camp at the Alarton racecourse. AN INTOXICATED MOTORIST Before Messrs H. Y. Cameron J.P., and F. R. H. Brice, J.P., in the Magistrate’s Court on Saturday morning, a well-known Bangitikei farmer (whose name was recommended to be suppressed), pleaded guilty to being drunk While in charge of a car, and was fined £2O, a condition being that he take out a prohibition order. Constable Thompson said the case was a particularly bad one as there had been several complaints regarding defendant in the past. He had been previously warned, but without result, and he was arrested on Friday afternoon in High Street. The constable asked that a prohibition order be issued against defendant and, 1 that tho license be cancelled for the remainder of the year. Mr F. J. Christensen, for defendant entered a plea of guilty. The accused, he said, realised his foolishness and while he did not want his license can celled* was quite walling to take out a prohibition order. After a retirement of about 15 min-

utes the Justices imposed the fine as stated and pointed out to defendant the seriousness of the offence.
