OIL RATES WAR
PRICES CUT IN CALCUTTA UNLOADING SOVIET STOCKS. CALCUTTA, Nov. 22. A kerosene rates war ’has begun in Calcutta, and as the result the price has fallen by one rupee four annas per unit for eight gallons. It is alleged that the Standard Oil Company of New York has procured large stocks confiscated by tho Soviet Government, which the company is offering for sale in both Bombay and Calcutta, and consequently the Asiatic Petroleum Company, the Burma Oil Company, and the Indo-British Oil Company have reduced their rates. Tho dealers are buying large quantities, and are said to be hoarding their stocks in the hope of disposing of the oil in the bazaars at big profits after the rate war, which is not likely to last long.
