NO NIGHT BETTING

NEW SOUTH WALES BILL PREVALENCE OF ILLEGAL WAGERING (A. & KZ.) SYDNEY, Nov. 30. The Government is introducing a Bill to prohibit betting or wagering after sunset on any licensed racecourse or coursing ground. This is to prevent bookmakers operating at any mechanical coursing meeting at night. The growing prevalence of illegal betting is shown in the police report. For the three months ended October 24, 243 people in the metropolitan area were charged with illegal betting and fines of over £lOOO were inflicted.
