FLORAL FAIR
A GAY SCENE BUSINESS AND SOCIAL ENJOYMENT The interior of the Drill Hall presented a gay scene yesterday when the floral fair conducted by the enthusiastic workers of Christ Church and St. Chad’s, assisted by friends, was opened. Throughout the afternoon and evening good business was done, and the extensive patronage accorded the effort suggested that when the doors are closed this evening the venture will have been a success both socially and financially. Organisations responsible are: Ladies' Guild, Girls’ Friendly Society, Church of. England Men’s Society, and Girl Guides. There were numerous stalls at which bargains were being driven continually, and thanks to the generosity of the supporters of the fair there was no lack of saleable articles.
Stalks and various other activities of the fair were manager as follows: — Needlework, flower stalls, Ladies’ Guild; mystery stall, Rev. Creed Meredith; kitchen goods, Girls’ Friendly Society; missionary work, goods, Children’s Missionary Guild; sweets stall, Girl Guides; produce stall, church workers; cake stall, St. Chad’s members; icc cream, and fruit salad stall, church workers; refreshment department, church workers. Entertainment was also provided, Mrs Burgess’s singing in the afternoon being greatly appreciated, and three half hour entertainments in the evening providing an interesting programme. Miss A. Hughes-Johnson’s dancing pupils, Miss A. Fantham’s concert party and the Wanganui East Dramatic Society, were the contributors.
