NOT A SUCCESS
WHIPPETS IN WELLINGTON AN UNSATISFACTORY INTRODUCTION L Per Press Association. J WELLINGTON, Nov. 30. Wellington was introduced! to whippet racing last uight, but it was hardly a success. So much time was lost in stringing tapes for the course, taking the dogs to and from the starting point and removing the tapes again to allow other items to proceed!, that it became wearisome and, in the end, of three events, only two were run. Even then the spectators were detained on the ground till nearly 11. It was obvfbus that this sport must be kept to itself and cannot be mixed with others. The dogs are small and flash by at 15 yards a second and the actual running over all only takes a few minutes altogether which is out of all proportion to the time wasted in waiting for it to beginNO BETTING NEW BILL IN VICTORIA (A. & N.Z.) MELBOURNE, Nov. 30. The Assembly passed the first reading of a Bill to prohibit betting at mechanical hare coursing meetings.
