THE RIVER CITY
ATTRACTING THE TOURIST WORLD-WIDE ADVERTISING j Wanganui, the river city of New ; Zealand, does not hide its light under a bushel. It has many attractions for ; the tourist and it does not forget to jtell him so. i For instance, th© City Council has a well-prepared pamphlet, some hundreds of copies of which are issued to the i leading hotels, where, on th© arrival of ;a guest, the folder is enclosed in an envelope bearing the city’s coat of arms, and addressed to the new arrival. , The matter then becomes a personal one. and the places of interest which j the city has to offer are brought promi inently before the visitor. In this way I many tourists have been induced to ex- | tend their itinerary in Wanganui. i Passengers on the observation buses ' are also catered for with another pamI phlet containing a map and items of 1 interest en rente, while tram-cars display a card containing a lost of places where on© can spend a profitable few nii notes. But. Wanganui docs not merely advertise itself within its own territory. The Chamber of Commerce has a fine illustrated booklet which has been circulated all over the world, and Mr R M. Firth, manager of the Wanganui Government Tourist Bureau, states that th« bureau has supplied copies of ihe Ciiy Council’s folder to oth t tourist bireaux in New Zealand, .n the five Ct ate capitals uf Australia, Du .’ban an J Johannesburg, Calcutta, San Francisco, and Vancouver, and London. In one way and another Wanganui is being kept well “on’the map,” and the money which is being spent in advertising its attractions is bringing its harvest in an increasingly large number of visitors. _
