ATTEMPTED MURDER
CHARGE AGAINST SEAMAN SHOOTING AFFAIR AT RABATONGA [ Per Pre.-'S Association. ] WELLINGTON, Nov.. 22., Charged -with having attempted to murder a native woman at Raratonga, and with doing grevious bodily harm to her, Gavin John Allen, ship’s storeman on the Makura, aged 26, appeared in the Magistrate’s Court this afternoon. Chief Detective Ward said accused was a single man and was arrested at noon to-day. At Raratonga on November 14, it was alleged that ho fired a shot at a native woman named' Noo, striking her in the buttocks. There was insufficient evidence to arrest him at the time, although afterwards the High Judge at Rarotonga had issued a warrant for his arrest. Chief Detective Ward asked that the case be adjourned until November 29, when the original warrant, signed at Rarotonga, would have arrived in Wellington, The remand was granted.
