STORES AND ABATTOIRS THE HARBOUR BOARD LOAN Negotiations in connection with tlje taking over by the Wanganui Harbour Board of the Wanganui Meat Freezing Co.’s interest at Castlecliff, have been concluded. The Board is now in full control of the butter, cheese, and wool stores, and the City Council is in control of the abattoirs. The loan to put the deal through amounted to £40,000, and was over subscribed in five days, amounts being received from various towns as follows: Dunedin £12,500, Wellington £4,900, Waipukurau £4,600, Wanganui £4,300, Christchurch £4,000, Auckland, £2,000, Otorohanga £2,000, Balclutha £1,200, Oamaru £l,OOO, Rotorua £BOO, Kurow £BOO, Frankton £5OO, Palmerston (Otago) £5OO, Shannon £5OO, Hastings £3OO, Temuka £lOO.
The cost of raising the loan was only £lB3, or approximately .45 per cent. The City Council’s share of the loan was £7,500, this sum being required for the purchase of th© abattoirs. The loan has to be repaid by September 5, 194-:.
