BOROUGH COUNCIL MEETS [ Special “ Chronicle ” Service. ] The monthly meeting of the Patea Borough Council was held on Monday evening, the Mayor (Mr F. S. Finlayson) presiding. The Mayor referred to the death of Constable H. D. Armour, remarking that he had won for himself a place in the hearts of everyone. His Worship moved: 1 ‘That this Council extend to Mrs Armour and family its deep sympathy in their bereavement.” This was seconded by Cr. unristensen and carried in silence. Mr Gray, of Inglewood, advised that he was in a position to supply good broken metal for the roads at a reasonable cost and asked for an estimate of the quantity of metal the Council would be requiring durring the next three years.—lt was resolved to thank Mr Gray for his letter. The Borough solicitor forwarded a transfer from Hayward to Locker of certain property for completion and the Mayor and Cr. hamsnottom were appointed to sign on behalf of the Council.

The Electrical Supply Association wrote asking if the engineer intended joining the Association.—lt was decided that the Council should pay the subscription. A letter was received from Mr Adams, of Hawcra, with reference to replastering the interior of the walls of the Town Hall, estimating the cost at about £74, the Council to erect all necessary scaffolding and to have walls scraped.—lt was resolved to hold over consideration for the present. The Medical Officer of Health notified that owing to a re-arrangement of Departmental inspectors, Inspector Pargeter would take over the duties of Inspector Coleman for the Patea district. The engineer reported that the hydro plant had run for 696 hours during thy month, generating 23,182 units. The Diesel plant was run for 26 hours, generating 935 units, making the month’s total 24,117 electrical units. Owing to the heating and sterilising required .at the hospital a change from 100 to 330 volt stSrifiard had been necessary. A total of 954,400 gallons of water had been pumped at a cost of 2/286 electrical units.
