DOMINION’S PROGRESS REPORT BY DEPARTMENT [ Special " Chronicle ” Service. ] WELLINGTON, Nov. 5. During the past two seasons attention has been given to the extension, of the Dominion’s plant resources. ,y The Horticultural Department now reports that the Worcester Berry, a combination of the gooseberry and blackcurrant, appears to be acclimatised and doing well. The avocado, introduced here from Mexico, is another fruit which is prospering, particularly in Auckland. A big demand is also reported for the Chinese gooseberry, which is a flowering climber and very attractive. It bears stone fruit. The avocado is the staple food of the Mexican Indians and the fruit is greasy and the colour and taste of butter.
