MARTON

PARK LIGHTING AND QUEEN CARNIVAL. [Special “Chronicle” Service.] At a conference of the Town and Sports Queens’ organisers on Friday evening it was decided to nominate a queen for the town only, and Mr. T. Bartin was oppointed delegate on the executive committee. A strong committee was formed and a meeting of same will be held shortly to draw up their programme for the day’s carnival. THE QUEEN CARNIVAL At u meeting of local sports representatives on Friday evening it was decided not to nominate a separate queen for the proposed Queen Carnival but to fall in with the town and assist the proposal in every way. Several townspeople attended the meeting and a strong committee was set up to set matters in train for an enthusiastic campaign. Mr T. Barton was elected delegate to the controlling executive and details were arranged in connection with nominating a queen. PERSONAL Mr C. R. Higgins, of Marton branch of the Bank of New Zealand, has been transferred to Huntorville, and will be replaced by Mr Beale, of the Hunterville branch. “MAN OF THE FOREST” Lakes that breathe, canyons with triple echoes, twelve-pronged deer with charmed lives and herds of wild horses; —these are some of the fascinating features of the California Sierras country photographed by Director John Waters’ motion picture company in making Paramount’s “Man of the Forest,” from Zane Grey's novel, which will be shown at the Marton Town Hall this evening.

At ono point, eleven thousand feet above sea level, from which several shots were taken, thirteen mountain lakes are visible, within a radius of twenty-five miles. They might be dubbed Chromatic, or Spectrum Lakes, because they are variously called Red, Purple and Blue Lake. Another stormy episode of the serial “The Radio Detective” will also be shown. CRICKET MARTON v. POREWA The Marton and Porcwa teams met at the sports ground on Saturday, the gamo resulting in a draw after umpires decided that the light was too bad for further play shortly after 5 p.m.. Porewa won the toss and batted first, D. A. Cameron (64), A. Fullerton-Smith (18) and H. G. Lourie (11) being the only double figure scores. For Marton S. Mall 2 for 3. Hunley College v. T. Lyon’s XI. Huntley College met a team of schoolboys captained by Trevor Lyon and defeated tho visitors by 32 runs. Huntley batted first and compiled 151 for eight wickets and declared. P. L. Marshall played a splendid innings for 77 while T. A. Harpur also batted well in scoring 29 in a partnership of 6u with Marshall. All the boys showed great promise and reflected great credit on their coaches.
