FIRE DANGER
! TO-DAY’S CELEBRATIONS LETTING OFF OF CRACKERS. (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Nov. 4. Uneasiness is prevalent in regard to fires from firewoorks to-morrow, and the police have promised that the matter will receive attention. Mr Cray, of the Fire Underwriters’ Association, expresses the opinion it is high time something was done. The letting off of crackers is a potent cause of fires, and should be rigorously put down, also the lighting of bonfires. Apparently the Wellington Council has no authority in the matter, the police being responsible. The time is much overdue for the unification of the bylaws of local bodies in respect to the matter of November fireworks, he says.
