MELBOURNE MAN’S IMPRESSION NEW ZEALANDERS’ TOUR Among the passengers en route to Australia by the Tahiti from San Francisco recently, was Mr Fred. Midlane, of Melbourne. At one time> Mr Midlane was a prominent cricketer in Wellington, first as a member of the Phoenix Club, and subsequently, when the district scheme came into operation, as a Wellington East player. He later went to Auckland and played there for a season, or two.

During his recent visit to England Mr Midlane saw the New Zealand cricketers in several matches, one of which was the game with Leicester at Manchester. Tliere was only one day’s play in the match with the champion county, and this was unfortunate as the New Zealanders looked like registering a win, which would hav© been a big thing for them. Throughout their tour, said Mr Midlane to a Post reporter, the New Zealanders had made a very fine impression, the English public being very much taken with the tourists on and off the field.
