BAN ON SMOKING

WATERSIDERS’ PROTEST STRIKE FOLLOWS. (A. & N.Z.) BRISBANE, Nov. 2. Work on the waterfront at Bowen is at a standstill as the result of 20 workers being fined for smoking in a wooden portion of the jetty. The men ceased work as a protest and refused to resume unless the Water Board refunds the fines and allows the men to smoke anywhere on the wharves.
