OPEN-AIR SCHOOLS

CONDITIONS IN CANADA SIMILAR TO THE TUBAKINA CAMP. While on exchange duties in Canada, Miss M. Ditfort, of the Avenue School staff, saw the open-air schools’ scheme widely in operation, and she speaks enthusiastically of the Forest School for delicate children, situated in High Park, Toronto, one of the largest parks of that city. The Forest School was a summer school, and was closed during the winter months, she said. The school was entirely in the open, without any covering of any description, the desks being placed on large wooden platforms. The children were instructed by a special staff of teachers, and were kept at the school all day long, including the lunch hour. Miss Ditfort sjhted it was imlar to Dr. Elizabeth Gunn’s Turakin* health camp.
