TAIHAPE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE

Sir, —Certain criticism has been levelled at the above and some of its members, and I trust that you will afford me space to refer to the subject.

Let me first of all state, from an intimate knowledge of the Chamber, that we have had as members of the Council ever since the Chamber came into existence men of integrity and helpful spirit, who have done all in their power to assist the legitimate work of the Chamber; mon who were not .above appreciating helpful criticism, as being given more to assist and build up than To destroy. Things said in a well-wishing and helpful spirit can be appreciated by any broad-minded man; but, when personalities are brought into the criticism, how can the town or Chamber of Commerce benefit? When, in place of that public, spirit that must help a town, one finds petty and per sonal and unhelpful criticism, how can this benefit the town or district? We have men in the Chamber of Coin merce who give time and thought whole mindedly and public-spiritedly, and it behoves the citizens to support those men by coming to the adjourned annual meeting to be hold on the 31st. inst. and to discuss there ways and means to assist in building the Chamber to be a bigger, and, if possible, more representative body. I hope the citizens will help their local chamber of Commerce by attending its meeting. A WELL-WISHER. Taihape, October 27.
