CHILDREN’S FROLIC

FANCY DRESS BALL WANGANUI EAST SCHOOL FUNCTION. Bel ween .1300 and .1400 people attended the Wanganui East School’s grand fancy dress ball which was held last evening in Messrs Wright, Stevenson and Co. ’s spacious wool store. It was indeed a memorable occasion, and the 450 children dancing in fancy dress ! provided a brilliant spectacle. With a similar function held in the ! Wanganui East Town Hall the previous week for the benefit of the younger children, the school grounds improvement fund will benefit to the extent of about £5O. For the dancing last evening Burton’s Orchestra of six instruments provided the music gratis, while in all other departments connected with the running of this monster event there was no lack of helpers. Credit in no small measure is due :o the secretary Mr W. H. Riley, the chairman of the school committee, Captain W. J. Melville, and the headmaster, Mr C. H. Warden, while to Stephenson and Co. for the use of the building and the assistance of their staff, the best thanks of the promoters is extended. During the evening ALiss Swan’s pupils danced a minuet and other dances. An excellent musical item that was very pleasing was furnished by Master Cliff Bridges (piano), Aliss Nancy Bridges (violin) and Connie Bridges (xylophone).
