amateur road racing NOTES AND COMMENTS (By “Itylus.” The race last week was a good one and Reynolds deserved his win as he has been persevering since he started. Fyfe also rode better than usual and must be complimented on his fine showing. He has been very close up lately. Norton Ross rode well and was only beaten over the last bit. The race this week will be a tenmile event for novices (i.e, those who have not secured a win during the road season)! First prize will be a trophy presented by Mr J. D. Hammond. Should the Palmerston North to Wellington event be postponed a ten-mile sealed handicap race .will be held on September 17. Each ridjer will start on his own and riders unpaced, handicaps and times being adjusted after the race. The track season will open on September 22 when the Pirate Club will hold an evening meeting. Riders wishing to increase their cycling lore are advised to obtain without delay a copy of the *‘ Cyclist. ’ ’ Saturday’s Handicaps Handicaps for this week’s race are announced by Mr Cliff Ohainey as follows:—C. E. Ericsson and L H. Ross scr.; A. Ford, A. Beattie and J. H. Alp, Imin; A. Fyfe and N- Ross, 2min; A. Gannon, R. W. Paul and C. Brown, 2min. 40sec; H. Nagel, R. M. Harrison, W. Smith and K. Cuthbei tson, 3min. 20sec.; E. Harper and F. Williams, 4 mins.
