AN ODD TRIO

MAN, WIFE, WHEELBARROW SOUTH AFRICANS’ PUSH TOUR OF THE WORLD. I Special “ Chronicle ” Service. ] AUCKLAND, Aug.| 15. Many people walking found the world have dropped into Auckland, but none of them had come along pushing a wheelbarrow until a tall man and his wife, dressed in khaki Boy Scout and Girl Guide rig out, stepped ashore from the liner Aorangi. The man was pushing a khaki wheelbarrow with a tyre, advertisement uil one side, and on the other a notification that the trio were bound round the world. It seems a queer way to spend several years of one’s life pushing a wheelbarrow round the world, but the man of the party has been a rover ever since he was 15 and his wife apparently gets quite a lot of fun out of wild adventure. This very noticeable pair of wanderers are Mr and Mrs D. J. Le Roux, of Johannesburg, South Africa. On the last day of 1922 they set out with their little wheelbarrow to sec the world, and after doing New Zealand and Australia they will take ship for Africa iud home, having a mere trifle of 1000 miles to foot it after they land at Durban. “We have walked 11,899 miles so far’,’ said Mrs Le Roux to a reporter, “and since we set out we have traversed South Africa, Portuguese East Africa, Egypt, Italy, Switzerb.xid, France, Belgium, Holland aal England, then across to Canada. The only part that was really trying was Canada, which took us two years to cross. We had two winters there and my husband felt it very much coming from a climate.”
