Mr Justice Reed and Mrs Reed, of Wellington, are guests at Foster’s Hotel. Mr Justice Reed will preside at the Supreme Court sessions this week at Warfganui. Registrations during the week-end at the Rutland Hotel were Mr E. Broad (Waipukurau), Mr C # G. Dean (Liverpool), Mr N. C. Armitage (New Plymouth), Mr and Mrs A. Pirie and Mr C. Robinson (Wellington).
Guests at Foster’s Hotel are Messrs A. Marchant, C. Tucker, Mr and Mrs J. H. Boyd (Auckland), Mrs Hugh Speed (Wanganui), Mr G. Herrick, Mr and Mrs Nelson Smith, Mr and Mrs Rainbow (Hastings), Mr W. A. Patterson (Christchurch), Mr W. Hazlett (Invercargill), Mr J. Martin, Miss Martin (Wellington).
Much regret will be felt in Wanganui and district at the death on Saturday at the age of nine years, of Tamaiparea (Tommy), second son of Mr and Mrs A. Takarangi, of Putiki. The lad was of a bright and intelligent nature and a general favourite among his schoolmates, and much sympathy with Mr and Mrs Takarangi will be expressed.
After 20 years ’ residence in Palmerston North there passed away on Thursday Mr James Silby, aged 88. The deceased arrived in Wellington from the Old Country on January 22, 1877, and} was one of the pioneers of Halcombe. Prior to coming to Palmerston North he resided for some years in Wanganui. His wife predeceased 'him eleven years ago- A large family of children will mourn their loss, namely, Mcsdames A. E. Whitehead, Palmerston North, Reynolds (Auckland), Macartney (Dunedin), Woolley (Wellington), and Howell (Waipukurau), and Messrs J. K. Silby (Stratford), G. D. Silby (Christchurch) and J. Silby (Sydney). The deceased gentleman is survived by a broThcr and a sister, Mrs Randall (Wanganui) and Mr S. Silby (Hawera).
