FORESTRY COMPANIES
A MINISTERIAL ATTACK DOUBTS EXPRESSED. MELBOURNE, Aug. 3. In the Assembly, the Minister of Forests attacked the business methods of the New Zealand and Victorian Forest Companies. He said the companies had been selling bonds to thousands of people in Australia at £25 and £3O respectively, representing that the bond entitled the holder to the timber of an acre, which would be worth £5OO in twenty or thirty years. He doubted if it would bo worth £lO. These enterprises, said the Minister, claimed that high prices would be paid in future for soft woods for pulping purposes, but nowhere was soft wood used for such a purpose.
