DO PETROL PUMPS RESIST FIRE?

The recent destruction of Mr H. J. Eaves’ Otakeho store is unique in that it marks the first fire in Taranaki since t'he institution of kerb-sido petrol pumps, in which the fire raged round the Shell petrol pump installed on the premises. The pump itself was badly scorched and the rubber hose was burned off, and when the verandah fell it lodged on the pump and- there blazed away for some time.
