EFFECT OF UNPAID NATIVE RATES. A<s a matter of interest to farmers in the Wanganui district is that of unpaid rates on native lands. In this connection the following- remit was passed at the recent annual conference of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union: — “That on a statutory declaration being made by the chairman or secretary of a local body, the rates on native land not paid for two years or more, be deducted from the total capital value of the county as assessed by Hospital Boards before the fixation of hospital levies. it was pointed out that it was a hardship in the case of counties that had large areas of native land from which no rates could be collected, to have to pay the hospital levy on such lands.
