CYCLIST RUN DOWN Man Thrown to Ground and Killed by Motor-Car VISIBILITY BAD (Per Press MASTERTON, Aug. «. A fatality occurred on the main Mastcrton-Carterton road-, a mile and a-half south of Masterton, at seven o’clock to-night when George Judd, ageii 63, a farmer who was cycling from his farm to Masterton, was run down from behind by a ear driven by Charles Stevens, a baker of Carterton, who was proceeding to a Masonic gathering in Masterton. Heavy rain was falling at the time and on the bitumenised road surface the effectiveness of headlamps was conisderably reduced. It is stated that the car was travelling at a reasonable speed, but as deceased’ had no reflector on the rear of his cycle, he was not seen until it was too late to avert a collision. The cyclist was thrown on to his head and died immediately from * fracture of the skull.
